HP releases firmware update for select models to enhance mobile printing functionality
On September 29, 2011 Hewlett Packard released an update to LaserJet printer firmware that allows full mobile printing capabilities to owners of HP LaserJets. The new update is posed to increase productivity in small and medium businesses by enabling secure printing from wireless devices. Documents such as photos, emails and invoices can be easily sent to any ePrint capable HP printer.
The firmware update allows certain printers and multifunction prints the ability to connect to HP via the Internet, enabling full mobile printing capabilities such as AirPrint and Wireless Direct. Users of iPads, iPods and iPhones can print directly to HP printers equipped with AirPrint without needing to install software drivers. The firmware update will also enable users to connect to HP printers that support ePrint, even with no Internet connection or network access. Printing using ePrint is as simple as connecting any mobile device with WiFi access to the printer and sending an email of the documents to be printed.
The firmware update will also allow support of the newest applications created by HP, which will make mobile printing much quicker and accessible for home users, office users, or users at authorized HP ePrint locations. The firmware can be downloaded onto Mac computer or PCs and setup is easily completed within several minutes, for users with printers that support ePrint via email, AirPrint or Wireless Direct. Immediately after installing the firmware update the ePrint feature can be used as long as the device supports email.
LaserJet printers that have been manufactured after the firmware became available will not need to be updated by users, as they will be updated prior to being shipped and will be fully functional when purchased. Compatible printer owners may find that updating their printers with the new firmware can make printing much more convenient, regardless of their location.
